A Purpose Driven Generation

Where do you see yourself ten years from now? What kind of house do you want to wake up in? What kind of car would you be driving? What kind of spouse do you want to wake up beside (if you qualify)? Have you written down the name of the company(ies) you desire to own? Would it be a bad idea if someday in your life you have to pay people salaries? What products do you plan to bring out? How many items do you plan to have your name on? In fact where are you going with your life?

I have learnt that you don’t have to be up before you look up. There is always space at the top for everyone who is deliberately headed somewhere with their lives. A life without direction is like a football match without a goal post – it’s filled with activities but no result. I see a lot of people, who are busy daily but going nowhere meaningful with their lives. It’s not everyone that is busy that is making progress. Many people have spent the last ten years of their lives moving around the same spot. Some are busy helping others fulfill their dreams while their own is lying dormant.

You cannot arrive at a future that you cannot see. If you don’t know where you are going anywhere will look like it. If you don’t know where you are going you will not know when you get there. If you don’t know where you are headed you will settle too soon. This is the reason for mediocrity in Africa. We have so many people with survival-mentality. They grab anything that comes their way, they hold on to a position for so long as if there is nothing better ahead. Please do not allow the depth of poverty in your background limit the height of your rising.

A PURPOSELESS GENERATION

A generation without purpose is a disaster waiting to happen. A people who refuse to dream and set-goals for themselves and their communities but prefer to sit down and wait for free money will end up in slavery. The earlier the young people of this generation realize this, the better for them. Nigeria cannot be great if we sit down, fold our hands and just watch things happen. No nation can achieve greatness without clear goals and vision. Every nation that has moved from third world to a developed world had a clear plan. They didn’t just hope that things would happen. But if the people in a nation do not even have a direction for their own lives how can they think of creating a road map for their nation? National transformation begins with personal transformation.

There are so many Christians who are living purposeless lives. They have not discovered their purpose, so they can’t develop it. An unbeliever with a clear vision will succeed more than a believer without a vision. An unbelieving business man with a goal will far exceed a believer with no goals. Prayer is not a substitute for goals. Praying without planning is playing without knowing. Evangelism is not a substitute for goals. A lot of people are wasting and frustrating the grace of God because they don’t have clear cut goals. A lot of times delays come from us not having a clear picture of where we are going. You will be more useful to God and this world if you can settle down and find out your life’s purpose and where you belong in this world.

FUNDAMENTALS OF PURPOSE

You don’t decide your purpose, you discover it. Nobody has the right to tell you what your destiny is – only God. There are five basic questions you must ask yourself to fully discover and maximize your purpose on earth: Who am I? Where am I from? Why am I here? What can I do? Where am I going?

In his book The Spirit of Leadership, Dr. Myles Munroe gives us some basic principles of purpose. They are listed below:

1. Purpose determines design

2. Purpose determines potential

3. Purpose determines natural abilities

4. Purpose determines capacity and ability

5.Purpose determines natural talents

6. Purpose determines natural desires

7. Purpose determines fulfillment and personal satisfaction

8. Purpose is the source of passion

9. Purpose gives existence meaning

10. Purpose is the measure of success and failure

KEYS TO DISCOVERING YOUR PURPOSE

Ask Your Creator

The first key to discovering your purpose is to ask God. He created you and knows why you were born. Ask him and believe he will reveal and guide you into His purpose for your life.

Your Natural Abilities

One basic way of knowing what God has called you to do is by looking at your natural abilities or talents. Those things you do naturally with less stress or struggle.

The Experiences of Your Life

Most of the experiences you have had are journeys God allowed you to make because there are people making that journey that needs a tour guide. Your experiences are not wasted.

Your Supernatural Resources

Find out how God moves in your life. The way God moves in your life is not the same way He moves in another. Finding out the supernatural resources you have will help you stay focused on your lane and not try to copy somebody else.

Enjoy!
